The Officers and NCOs would like to welcome you and your family to the Charger Brigade. We are the Training Support Battalion (TSB) for the State of Alaska. Welcome to the 2nd Battalion, 196th Infantry Brigade. Several members of our team live off post, and will be more than happy to provide recommendations on housing, schools, and resources in their areas. If you would like to live On-Post, your sponsor will be able to give you recommendations on which location will be most beneficial to your search given proximity to your own office. Our team offices are located in multiple locations between Barbers point, Fort Shafter, and near Schofield Barracks. There are several military installations on the island, and engaging your sponsor is critical when attempting to find a location. Your sponsor will be able to provide you with good recommendations on where to live. It is important to start your housing inquiries early whether you plan to live on or off post. However, you are taking an important first step here. We all go through the hassles of finding a suitable place to live. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance from your sponsor or the chain of command. You are likely to have many questions about schools, pet quarantine, vehicle shipment, transitional housing, and much more. There are many things to prepare for when being assigned to Hawaii. Our goal in 1st Battalion is to ensure that every Soldier and their families are met on arrival and provided assistance with lodging, resources here on the Island, and a team member to help integrate them. Your sponsor will contact you in order to help facilitate your move and to answer any questions you may have in regards to movement and arrival. Once your sponsorship has been requested, you will be assigned a sponsor by our Battalion S1 and it is often a member of the team you will be joining. Once you receive your assignment and have initiated sponsorship, engage the Battalion Headquarters to assist in your sponsorship process. Ensure that you pay close attention in your levy brief to the subtle nuances associated with your move here, whether you have been stationed abroad before or not. Generally speaking, your PCS process will mirror moves you have made in the past, with normal OCONUS exceptions specific to Hawaii. While it is universally understood that you align with USARPAC as an asset in this organization, you will utilize resources and facilities located at Schofield Barracks, along with Fort Shafter, and Barbers Point. The Battalion Headquarters is located at Barbers Point. In addition to providing quality mentorship and training to the Army National Guard and Reserve units in our area of responsibility, we are also tasked to assist the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Capability (JPMRC) in an Observer-Controller/Trainer capacity to observe and evaluate CTC simulated rotations for Active Duty Units stationed within the INDOPACOM AOR. Your partnership with your Reserve Component counterparts is essential in the completion of their mission to train and prepare for deployment. Our primary mission is to coach, teach, mentor, assist and evaluate small unit (squad and platoon level) for the National Guard and Army Reserve Units on the Island of Hawaii. Our Battalion consists exclusively of Officers and Senior Noncommissioned Officers, who lend their technical and tactical expertise and experience to a very specialized mission set. The Officers and NCOs of our organization would like to extend the warmest welcome to you and your family as you integrate into the Charger Brigade.
